She is the Nursing Consultant
for the Minister of Health in Kingdom of Bahrain and the Chairperson
of MOH ministerial committee for Patient Safety; this committee
is responsible for leading and coordinating MOH efforts to improve
the patient safety and promote accountability of the health
care delivery system to safety and risk management.
She completed her basic nursing education
in Bahrain and obtained her Master of Nursing from the USA.
In the interim period, she earned numerous academic qualifications
in nursing education, management, disaster and emergency nursing,
research, policy and leadership, and received 2 honorary academic
distinction awards from His Highness the King of Bahrain.
She has a progressive career in health
care in a wide range of roles including nursing specialist,
nursing faculty, chief nurse for primary health care, chief
nurse for Hospitals and Nursing Development Consultant. She
is the first Bahraini Nurse to be appointed as Nursing Consultant
for Minister of Health in Bahrain and in the region. Her strategic
role made her instrumental in the development, implementation
and evaluation of national strategic directions for nursing,
national nursing workforce plan, nursing cadre, and nursing
education reform.
She is one of the nursing leaders
of Bahrain Nursing society and served as a chairperson for
several committees within the society and published the first
National Nursing Newsletter, " Nursing". She is
UNSCO and WHO short-term consultant in EMRO since 2000. She
developed institutional strategies, education policies, designed
curriculums and education programs, set practice standards
for several countries in the region including Yemen, Syria,
and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
She is a member of several regional
and international nursing and health care management organizations
and associations including the Sigma-theta- tau International
Nursing Honor Society in USA, American Nursing Trauma Society,
American Nursing Association, American Association for Critical
Care Nursing, American Emergency Nursing Association and International
Scholars Society in USA. In addition, she is an international
editor for ICN peer reviewed journal the "INR".
Currently she is chair and member
in several national and regional nursing strategic committees
i.e. Chairing the National Nursing Consultative Committee,
the Nursing Executive committee, and Nursing Advanced Practice
committee, and member in GCC nursing Technical committee,
GCC committee for health care quality and patient safety,
GCC center for Evidence Based Health Care Practice and Arab
League Nursing and Midwifery Advisory committee. She is the
WHO focal point in Bahrain for nursing services and patient
safety.
Mrs. Al.Ahmed is a distinguished
presenter and moderator for numerous national and international
conferences and seminars, she have several publications including,
strategic planning, visionary leadership, effective nursing
management, faculty development, workforce planning, standard
of nursing education, patient safety, emergency preparedness
and disaster management, evidence based nursing practice and
nursing ethics. She has expertise in research and evidence
based health care practice and contributed significantly in
developing the WHO framework for evidence based nursing and
midwifery practice.
